10 -day punctuality drive on Indian railways with special focus on Mumbai suburban

To improve on -time running of its trains, Indian Railways (IR) has embarked on a 10-day punctuality drive starting September 2. The Railway Board has said that officers from all branches- Operating, Mechanical. Electrical, Civil engineering besides Signal & telecom- be deployed at major coaching terminals to ensure on -time departures.

 IR also proposes to run trains at their maximum permissible speed to make up for lost time due any asset failure (signal failure, loco failure, track defects, and the like). IR has also mandated speedy rectification of asset failures besides their close monitoring to improve punctuality.

Mumbai Suburban

Mumbai Suburban railway which is served by the Central Railway and the Western Railway have been asked to attend any excessive engineering restrictions affecting punctuality and restoring normal speeds on priority.

 [Engineering restrictions refer to speed restrictions at points, crossings, turnouts, curves, gradients and the like which are imposed on trains for safety purposes.]

Officers will be deployed round the clock from September 2 to September 12 at major suburban terminals on Mumbai suburban such as Mumbai CSMT, Churchgate, Kalyan, Kurla, Dadar, Mumbai Central, Andheri and Virar to ensure punctuality.

 A report of the drive has been sought for, by September 15.
