Doubling of Uppaluru-Gudivada-Moturu, Gudivada-Machilipatnam Lines of SCR Commissioned Today

Doubling work on the Uppaluru-Gudivada-Moturu and Gudivada Machilipatnam lines was commissioned today by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited, according to a statement released by South Central Railway.

The total line doubling work commissioned is of 69 km in length.

Sanctioned in 2011-12, the newly commissioned double line section is part of the Vijayawada – Gudivada – Bhimavaram – Narsapur, Gudivada – Machilipatnam & Narsapur – Nidadavolu doubling and electrification project of SCR. The project is currently estimated to cost approx Rs. 3,000 crores.

The completion of this project will create an alternate railway route to the Visakhapatnam-Vijayawada trunk route.

RVNL was appointed the executing agency for the project. Out of 221 km, work on 124 km is now complete. The remaining work on 97 km of the line is due for completion by mid-2021.

The line has been designed for 25 ton axle loads for a maximum permissible speed of 110 kmph. 60 kg rail and PSC sleepers were used with mobile flash butt welding plant welding of rail joints.

11 Major Bridges and 222 Minor Bridges have been constructed by using the latest in bridge engineering technology. Giving a big thrust to train handling capacities, 7 station yards of Uppaluru, Indupalli, Gudivada, Moturu, Pedana, Kavutaram and Machilipatnam have been remodelled as part of the doubling work, said the SCR statement.
