Electrification: EPC Tender Floated For 497 km RE on North Western Railway

The Central Organisation for Railway Electrification (CORE) has floated a tender worth Rs 307.8 crore for route electrification of three sections over North Western Railway.

Routes to be electrified:

  • Bikaner-Merta Road (173 route km),
  • Samdari- Barmer-Munabao (252 route km)
  • Luni-Marwar (72 route km).

This is an EPC mode (engineering procurement and construction) single-stage tender.

The pre-bid conference will be held on October 29,2020, and the date of starting of bidding is November 6, 2020. Tender closes on November 20, 2020.

The project has to be completed in 720 days time from date of award of the contract. The bidding type is a two packet system wherein bids have been provided in two separate packets- one for technical specifications and the other for financials.

Neighbouring sections

In mid -August, CORE floated a tender for route electrification of Biradhwal- Lalgarh-Phalodi (318 route km), Jaisalmer- Phalodi-Jodhpur (293 route km) and Jodhpur–Luni -Samdari- Bhildi (303 route km) sections on an EPC basis.

This tender was worth Rs 671.16 crore with a completion target of 30 months. 

This is one of several EPC electrification tenders awarded by Indian Railways or its execution agencies over the past few years. Tenders are being awarded in this format to speed up the execution of projects. Indian Railways plans to go 100% electrified by the end of 2023.
