Indian Railways will now have a locomotive which runs on both Diesel and Electric traction, the WDAP-5. This innovative dual traction loco was designed at the Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW) at Varanasi. This will help reduce the usage of diesel loco in electrified sections. The first of these, numbered 71000 will be allotted to Kazipet Loco Shed.
