Bedrolls for all Garib Rath passengers, May 2020 onwards

Indian Railways (IR) has decided to compulsorily provide bedrolls to all Garib Rath passengers. This will be implemented from May 15, 2020 onwards.

Henceforth, all Garib Rath passengers will be charged Rs 25 for bedroll at the time of booking tickets. Earlier, passengers had the option to either book a bedroll while booking or ask for one during the journey.

The move follows receipt of complaints regarding issue of bedroll facility in trains besides feedback received from passengers via an opinion survey.

IR said the move would save passengers from the inconvenience of making payment in trains besides checking mis-use by bedroll attendants.

Presently, 26 pairs of Garib Rath trains run across IR.

The Railway Board has instructed all zonal railways to provide adequate supply of bedrolls/linen,  modify certain coaches on Garib Rath trains to stack them besides feeding the correct number of berths post modification of coaches for passenger convenience.

IR’s IT arm, Centre For Railway Information Systems (CRIS) has been instructed to modify IR’s ticketing software for realising bedroll charges along with fare for Garib Rath trains.
