NCR Launches Computer-Based Counselling System for Loco Pilots

For safe train operations in North Central Railway, counselling of Loco Pilots is of paramount importance especially during winters when due to fog, the visibility drops to near zero. However, due to COVID-19, counselling of Loco Pilots has become very challenging since social distancing norms have to be necessarily followed.

Anupam Singhal, Chief Electrical Loco Engineer, North Central Railway took up this challenge resolutely. He conceptualized and designed a unique comprehensive technological solution to tackle this unprecedented problem. He devised a system wherein two LAN computers are incorporated with an Integrated Performance Assessment and Monitoring System (IPAMS) which contains the requisite performance data of all the running staff. This system would be used for one-to-one counselling.

This novel system of Computer Based Counselling (CBS) would also be gainfully utilized for the holistic training of the staff and also for keeping records of the counselling process and would be of immense use for exhaustive performance assessment and improvement thereof. Counselling would include topics related to safe train operations, e.g. knowledge of Modified Automatic Signalling System, Calling out Signals, adhering to speed restrictions, controlling the speed of the train during day/night as per rule etc.

The Counselling System was inaugurated by Principal Chief Electrical Engineer, North Central Railway, Satish Kothari. Thus, North Central Railway is committed to achieving the goal of safe and uninterrupted train services through this innovative counselling system.
