NCR: QR Code Based Reserved Ticketing System Being Piloted at Prayagraj Station As Zone Commences Special Train Operations

Operation of additional special trains commenced on North Central Railway including 02 originating trains

 Besides all standard arrangements related to Covid-19, North Central Railway also considering innovative ideas for safe and comfortable rail travel

Unique QR based reserved ticket scanning system implemented as pilot project at Prayagraj Jn Station

Efforts are on to make available QR codes directly from IRCTC server for implementation of this system across all station in each train

A system for automatic QR code-based ticket scanning is being tried out on Prayagraj Jn. station of North Central Railway.

Under the pilot scheme, each of 1153 reserved passengers travelling in 02417 special train from Prayagraj Jn. on 01.06.20 was sent a unique QR code through a message on their mobile phone and database of all QR codes was maintained in computer locally at Prayagraj Station.

After thermal scanning at Prayagraj Jn. station passengers had to just show the QR code which was scanned by QR code scanner from a distance and passenger boarding was automatically confirmed in the system.

This ensured that passenger doesn’t have to physically produce a ticket to anyone and checking onboard by TTE is also avoided as boarding of the passenger is already confirmed in the system.

Chart available with TTE had prior confirmation on passengers boarded thus minimizing the need of onboard checking inside the coach. Despite being the first day of introduction as many as 807 passengers of total 1153 could be checked in through this system introduced by Prayagraj division on a pilot basis.

Sri Anshoo Pandey, Sr DCM of Prayagraj division who has got this system developed under the overall guidance from General Manager Sri Rajiv Chaudhry informed that IRCTC has been approached to make available unique QR code to each reserved category passenger on their mobile phones directly from IRCTC server which will facilitate the implementation of this system across all stations in each train.

North Central Railway Commences Operation of Special Trains

From 01.06.20 operation of additional 200 special passenger trains commenced on Indian Railway network of which 100 trains are stopping at different stations of North Central Railway. These 100 trains includes two primary trains of North Central Railway between Prayagraj Jn. to  New Delhi and Kanpur Central to New Delhi . These additionally introduced special trains with already running AC specials are catering to passengers for different destinations across the country from following important stations of  North Central Railway .

North Central Railway has made elaborate arrangements for train and stations to ensure safe and comfortable journey experience to passengers in this new normal era when essential journey has to be performed while taking all precautions from Covid-19 . Provision of separate entry and exits with demarcations, signages etc are made at all stations to avoid crowd built up and mixing of passengers. Platforms, concourse and other passenger area are being frequently cleaned and sanitized. Arrangements for social distancing have been made through, markings on floor, barricades etc. Foot paddle operated washbasins, automatic sanitizer dispenser etc. are provided at stations to reduce touch points. Arrangements for thermal scanning of passengers has been made at all stations.
