NWR: Second most punctual zone in India

Punctuality

For the April-December period NWR clocked 94 per cent punctuality in train operations, second best in the country.  NWR runs six Vande Bharat and one Amrit Bharat trains on its system.

During the April -December period, 11 train pairs were introduced, four pairs were extended while 103 trains were provided additional halts. NWR ran 608 holiday specials and added over 12000 extra coaches.

Freight loading

NWR loaded 21.7 million tonnes of goods in the April- December 2025 period, higher than last year. The zone earned revenue of Rs 6249 crore in the same period, five per cent higher year-on-year.

Safety

About Rs 2300 crore has been sanctioned for implementation of Kavach, India’s indigenous Automatic Train Protection System, works for which are in progress.

NWR during the April-December 2025 period did 279 km of complete track renewal (CTR) and 518 km of deep screening of tracks for safe train operations. During this period, 23 level crossings were eliminated while 11 road-over-bridges and 21 subways were constructed.

 Passenger Amenities

In a first NWR has started providing  printed blanket covers on board Jaipur Asarva express. This will extended to other trains as well. NWR increased its laundry capacity to 66 tons per day to ensure supply of fresh linen on board trains.

NWR has invested Rs 7000 crore in various amenities works for which are in progress. 51 escalators, 49 lifts, train display boards at 116 stations, coach guidance system at 120 stations, public address system  and GPS clocks at 444 stations, wi-fi at 419 stations, CCTVs at 35 stations are being made available.

NWR takes an average of 22 minutes for resolving passenger complaints. Social media platforms X and Facebook are used to resolve complaints besides disseminating information to public.

Station re-development

77 stations of NWR are being redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat scheme. PM Narendra Modi inaugurated five stations -Deshnok, Rajgarh, Fatehpur Shekhawati, Gogamedi and Mandi Dabwali in May 2025.

Works at Jaisalmer, Barmer, Dausa, Khairthal and Rewari stations has been completed while works at Jaipur second entrance and Gandhinagar Jaipur are about to finish.

 Infrastructure

NWR is executing 1520 kms of new lines, doubling and gauge conversion projects at a cost of Rs 20000 crore. In addition, 1500 kms of new lines and doubling works totalling Rs 21000 crore are in various stages of approval.

The capex spend for April -December 2025 stood at Rs 5500 crore, up 28 per cent year-on-year. 65 kms of doubling and new lines have been commissioned during this period while 118 kms -58 km doubling, 15 km new line and 45 km gauge conversion) is likely to be completed by this fiscal.

All broad gauge sections on NWR barring Dausa Gangapur have been fully electrified. Dausa-Gangapur section will be energised by 2*25 KV traction by the end of this fiscal.

Container terminals have been opened at Hanwant, Dhanakya, Khariya Khangar while freight loading has commenced at Baniyana, Devpura and Raniwara. Coaching depots at Bhagat Ki Kothi and Jaipur are now equipped with new automatic coach washing plants.

NWR is expanding train maintenance facilities by developing an integrated rolling stock depot at Khatipura in Jaipur while Bhagat ki Kothi in Jodhpur is being developed as a  maintenance hub for Vande sleeper et al under the technology partner scheme.
