Paschim Express to be re-routed via Chandigarh; IR to drop slip coaches to Kalka

To do away with the activity of attaching and detaching slip coaches at Ambala Cantt, Indian Railways has desired to  re-route train number 12925 / 26  Bandra Terminus- Amritsar Paschim Express via Ambala Cantt – Chandigarh – New Morinda -Ludhiana.

The move follows Northern Railways’ letter in November 2019 to the Railway Board to run Paschim Express via Chandigarh while simultaneously doing away with the slip coaches.

This train originally went via Ambala Cantt-Rajpura Sirhind -Ludhiana to Amritsar with slip coaches to Kalka via Chandigarh being attached/ detached at Ambala Cantt.

Post the change, the slip coaches between Bandra Terminus and Kalka run as train number 22925/26 would be discontinued.

This is important from IR’s point of view as Kalka Railway station being situated at the foothills of Shivalik ranges of Himalayas does not have enough space to hold rakes.

The changes will be implemented from advance reservation period (ARP) or no booking date.
