A meeting was convened at the Railway Board on Monday to discuss the planning and implementation of seven new high speed rail (HSR) corridors.
National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) was directed to prepare a road map. As part of the roadmap, detailed project reports (DPRs) for completed corridors will be updated with current cost estimates to enable accurate financial viability assessments.
These seven new HSR corridors announced in the Union Budget 2026. These include Mumbai – Pune, Pune – Hyderabad, Hyderabad – Bengaluru, Hyderabad – Chennai, Chennai – Bengaluru, Delhi – Varanasi and Varanasi – Patna – Siliguri.
The Railway Board called for the standardisation of HSR rail systems across India. This includes project-wise creation of dedicated field-based core teams besides initiation of pre-construction activities, including contract documentation.
Planning for trained technical manpower to support upcoming HSR projects has been emphasised to ensure readiness for large-scale implementation. Progress on all action points will be reviewed, the meeting summed up.
