SWR commissions Makkajipalli – Dharmavaram double line

South Western Railway  (SWR) successfully commissioned doubling of the 30.04 km   Makkajipalli and Dharmavaram section as part of the Penukonda–Dharmavaram doubling project.

This follows the statutory inspection conducted by the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), SWR said in a statement on Sunday.

A speed trial was conducted at a maximum speed of 121 kmph, during which no abnormal peaks were observed in the Oscillation Monitoring System (OMS). Based on the inspection and trial results, the CRS has authorised the section for operation at a maximum speed of 110 kmph, SWR said.

With this stretch, the entire doubling project between Penukonda and Dharmavaram now stands completed. This section has been opened at the highest sanctioned speed of 110 kmph in the history of SWR.

Project details

The project involved the construction of 66 minor bridges, 15 road-under-bridges (RUBs), one foot-over-bridge (FOB), and development of one station yard comprising five lines.

In addition to the doubling work, one Intermediate Block Hut (IBH) has also been commissioned between Makkajipalli and Nagsamudram to enhance operational efficiency and improve line capacity.

The execution of works required close coordination with South Central Railway, particularly for works carried out at Dharmavaram station by South Western Railway, as well as coordination with the Commissioners of Railway Safety of both Railways, SWR said.
