Telangana Turmeric Takes Train To Bangladesh For The First Time

For the first time, almost 2,500 tons of Turmeric was dispatched to Bangladesh by train from Nizamabad in Telangana.

The Nizamabad area is one of the key turmeric growing regions in India. In normal circumstances, the spice is transported to consumption areas by road.

However, efforts by officials from Hyderabad Division of South Central Railways ensured dispatch of one 42 wagon rake with a total of 2,474 tons to Benapole in Bangladesh.

With the continuous marketing efforts by Railways and after several discussions, consignors have come forward for loading the turmeric produce by Rail. This was stated by a South Central Railway press release.

With the support being extended by Railways, the freight Customers in and around Nizamabad area are showing interest to further increase their transportation by Rail to Bangladesh. Transportation of agricultural products by Rail is economically beneficial to Consignors, bedsides transporting these essential products in the safest and fastest manner to the neighbouring Country.

Gajanan Mallya, General Manager, SCR advised the consignors transporting agricultural products to utilise the Rail transport which is the safest and cheapest mode of transport, according to the SCR statement.

It is not clear however, if this is the first of several consignments or was a one-off movement to Bangladesh.
