WR: Solar Mobile Charging Kiosks at 15 Suburban Stations, Including Dadar, Andheri, Borivali, Mumbai Central

SOLAR MOBILE CHARGING KIOSKS INSTALLED AT 15 SUBURBAN STATIONS OF WESTERN RAILWAY

Western Railway is always keen to take measures that affect the environment to the least and believes in giving thrust for use of environmentally friendly technologies.

Western Railway, as a part of the Indian Railways, has earned the reputation of providing economical and eco-friendly transportation and has positioned itself as a forerunner in the field of energy conservation and use of green energy.

In yet another eco-friendly initiative, Western Railway in coordination with FUNSOLAR Foundation, a non-profit company has installed 100% solar-powered mobile charging kiosks at suburban stations of Western Railway to facilitate a large number of commuters who need to charge their mobiles during the long working hours and travelling period.

These kiosks will provide the charging facility to multiple people at a time, besides, conserving energy and saving the environment.

According to a press release issued by Shri Ravinder Bhakar – Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, FUNSOLAR and Western Railway’s Mumbai Division have partnered to install 100% solar-powered kiosks at various stations across Mumbai. Commuters can charge their phone free of cost 24×7 at these kiosks. At a time a single kiosk can charge 8 phones and more than 100 phones in a day.

The kiosk is completely powered by solar energy and the solar panels are installed on the rooftops of the railway stations. The LCD display on the kiosk gives realtime information on the solar power generated, CO2 saved and battery status. 

Cost of each kiosk including its installation is Rupees One lakh, however, these kiosks have been provided free of cost to the Western Railway under CSR. Currently, these kiosks have been installed at 15 stations viz. Churchgate, Grant Road, Mumbai Central, Lower Parel, Dadar, Santacruz, Andheri (W), Kandivali (W), Borivali (E), Borivali (W), Vasai (W), Nallasopara (W), Virar, Boisar and Palghar. It is planned to install such kiosks at 5 more locations on Western Railway’s suburban stations.

As per the feedback received from the passengers, the move has been widely appreciated as it is a great been to them in present times where mobile phones have become the necessity both for the workplace as well as home.
