NFR: 17 Permanent Speed Restrictions Removed, Speeds Up Trains

Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has removed 17 Permanent Speed Restrictions (PSRs) imposed on its tracks saving running time of 4.6 minutes for all  trains running in those sections.

Speed has been raised over 170.50 kms length of railway track till the last month during this financial year. The move aims to maintain better punctuality and to offer enhanced train services to passengers.           

N.F. Railway removed three PSRs between Fakiragram- New Bongaigaon and New Jalpaiguri-New Coochbehar in Alipurduar division, one PSR between New Jalpaiguri-Raninagar in Katihar division and 13 PSRs between Lumding-Guwahati in Lumding division.

These 17 PSRs which were imposed over the railway track due to various reasons such as sharp curves, shrinkage of railway track or inadequate transition portion of the curve on the railway track and the like..

Section speed has also been raised between New Coochbehar-Golakganj in Alipurduar division from 70 kmph to 90 kmph for a stretch of 59 km; between Lumding –Habaipur in Lumding division from 75 kmph to 105 kmph for a stretch of 25 km and between Furkating-Jorhat-Mariani in Tinsukia division from 50 kmph to 75 kmph for a stretch of 86.5 km, totalling 170.50 km of railway track.

Speed over loop lines in 3 stations of Habaipur-Lumding section has also been raised to 30 kmph from existing 15 kmph.
