SCR gets approval for Push-Pull trains

South Central Railway (SCR) has received approval for operation of Push-Pull trains in the zone, according to sources. The approval is expected to pave the way for the introduction of Push-Pull services in the zone.

This follows a Railway Board directive to all zones to get approvals for their jurisdictions.

Sanction has been received for Push-Pull configuration where a WAP-7 class locomotive is attached at both ends of a 20 coach LHB EOG rake. The approval is subject to the standard compliance requirements.

However, there are no immediate plans for running Push-Pull services, according to sources. With the approval in place, SCR is now free to examine which trains can be switched to the more powerful Push-Pull configuration.

This configuration was originally tested on Western Railway on a special train. Trials were considered satisfactory. Additional runs were conducted on Central Railway.

The newly launched Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) – Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express was permitted to run with Push-Pull configuration for testing purposes, with some additional monitoring requirements laid down by the CRS and RDSO.
