CR : 3 pairs of trains to run on Electric traction end to end

Central Railway has decided to run 3 pairs of trains for Nagercoil/Thiruvananthapuram hauled by electric loco end to end.

The following are the pairs of trains.

16340 Nagarcoil – Mumbai express; ex Nagercoil from 23.12.2019 via Krishnarajapuram, Salem

16339 Mumbai – Nagercoil express; ex CSMT from 25.12.2019 via Krishnarajapuram, Salem

16352 Nagercoil – Mumbai express ; ex Nagercoil from 26.12.2019 via Renigunta

16351 Mumbai – Nagercoil express; ex CSMT from 28.12.2019 via Renigunta

16332 Trivendrum – Mumbai express; ex Trivendrum from 28.12.2019 via Ernaukulam, Coimbatore, Krishnarajapuram

16331 Mumbai – Trivendrum express; ex Mumbai from 30.12.2019 via Krishnarajapuram, Coimbatore, Ernaukulam.

However the distance between Daund & Wadi (338kms) is yet to be fully electrified. Hence the trains will be hauled by Diesel loco in this section without detaching the Electric loco. As a result, Diesel loco will be used only for that portion where electrification is not yet complete.

This decision follows Railway Board’s policy of not running Diesel locomotives in an electrified territory. Thereby saving on fuel cost.
