ECoR Rayagada division: CRS inspects newly commissioned Kamalur-Bhansi 2nd line

The Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), South Eastern Circle, Brijesh Kumar Mishra, conducted a statutory inspection of the newly laid second line between Kamalur and Bhansi stations of the Jagdalpur–Kirandul Doubling Project under Rayagada Division of East Coast Railway on July 2, 2026.

The inspection covered the 12.428-km section between Kamalur and Bhansi and marked the first CRS inspection for a doubling project in the newly formed Rayagada Division. Following the successful inspection and speed trial, the section has been declared fit for train operations.

Prior to the inspection, Pre-Non-Interlocking works for the section commenced on June 26, 2026, and the doubling work was successfully commissioned on July 2, 2026. During the inspection, the CRS carried out a detailed examination of the track, signalling systems, overhead equipment, bridges, level crossings and other safety installations to ensure compliance with all safety standards.

The Kamalur–Bhansi section forms an important part of the Jagdalpur–Kirandul route and traverses difficult terrain. The newly commissioned second line has been developed using modern engineering practices aimed at enhancing safety, reliability and operational efficiency.

Commissioning of the doubled section will significantly improve line capacity on the mineral rich Jagdalpur–Kirandul corridor, facilitating smoother movement of freight trains, particularly iron ore traffic, while reducing congestion on the existing line. It will also contribute to improved punctuality and better operational efficiency of passenger train services in the region.
