Railway Board to Send Back Staff on Loan from Zonal Railways Immediately

Railway staff belonging to group C (erstwhile group D) cadre loaned or attached from its zones/production units / PSUs will be repatriated immediately.

This was stated by the Railway Board in a letter dated October 21to all its General Managers.

The letter further stated that these entities issue immediate instructions to withdraw/ call back such staff from the railway board’s office in New Delhi.

Group C staff (erstwhile Group D) are supervisory / administration staff who have risen through the ranks having started their career at the bottom of the pyramid in the railways as workmen (Group D).

The letter added that no staff should henceforth be deployed to the Railway Board’s office without the express approval of the Chairman, Railway Board.

According to Indian Railways’ (IR) latest annual report (FY18) the number of employees in the railway board /other railway offices including RPSF (Railway protection special force) was 19,169.

Group ‘C’ staff accounted for 89.2 per cent of IR’s workforce with a headcount of over 11.33 lakh.
