CR commissions 103.58-km rail lines in FY26

Central Railway (CR) commissioned 103.58 km of railway lines during the last financial year 2025-26 (FY26). Two major projects namely Pune -Miraj doubling and Jalgaon Manmad 3rd line were commissioned.

The 281.05-km Pune–Miraj section doubling was done at a cost of ₹4,864.91 crore while the 160-km Jalgaon–Manmad third line cost ₹1,799.96 crore.

Yard re-modelling and modernisation

CR undertook yard-re-modelling and modelling at several stations such as Karjat (487 routes), Majri, Tadali, Warora, Multai and Jasai· This has significantly enhanced safety, operational flexibility and throughput.

Future Expansion

The Railway Board has sanctioned 12 new projects under CR’s jurisdiction covering 1,480 km, including multiple 3rd and 4th line corridors to improve mobility.

Signal & Telecommunication (S&T) Advancements

To strengthen in train operations, CR is implementing Kavach (indigenous train protection system) over 3,899 km sanctioned. CR has equipped 176 locomotives with Kavach and completed Phase-I trial completed on 200 kms. In addition,30,000 RFIDs & 330 communication towers have been installed.

73 Hot Axle Box Detectors (HABD) were installed for freight safety and an AI-based wagon inspection system introduced at Panvel, Mumbai division.

Resource Optimisation

In FY 26, CR saved ₹608 crore through open access power procurement. Fuel savings of approximately ₹195.5 crore through Head-On Generation (HOG).

Mechanical Innovations and Safety Enhancements

CR completed its first-ever SS2 major schedule of Vande Bharat rake  at Matunga Workshop. Moreover, Vande Bharat depots at Wadi Bunder, Ajni, and Pune were upgraded.

Operational Efficiency

CR introduced seven new trains in FY26. This included the Pune-Ajni Vande Bharat Express, LTT-Saharsa & Panvel-Alipurduar Amrit Bharat Express trains. Further, 76 new halts have been provided to various trains on CR and seven new stations have been introduced, including two on the suburban section in Mumbai and five on the Amalner-Beed line. In addition 12 stations have been redeveloped and speed of 77 pair of trains have been increased from 110kmph to 130kmph during FY26.

Kumbh Mela-2027

The General Manager also briefed on the arrangements being made for the Kumbh Mela-2027 at Nashik. This involves 90 projects costing Rs.1455 crores.

Developmental works including stabling lines, new platforms, Passenger Amenity works and other infrastructure works have been started on  eight stations along the route which includes Devlali, Nashik Road, Odha, Kherwadi, Kasbe Sukene, Niphad, Sainagar Shirdi and Igatpuri.
