At 4:30 am on August 2, 2026 a camel strayed onto the railway track on the Wansjalia–Ranavav section of Bhavnagar Division.
Showing presence of mind, Loco pilot Kalidas and Assistant Loco Pilot Jagdish Sahu, working Train Number 19015 Dadar–Porbandar Saurashtra Express, immediately applied the emergency brakes and stopped the train at a safe distance near Bridge No. 95, close to Wansjalia, as soon as they spotted a camel sitting on the track.
During inspection, the Assistant Loco Pilot found that the camel was trapped in a portion of the bridge. The matter was immediately reported to Train Manager S. P. Meena, Railway Control and Station Superintendent, Wansjalia.
Railway officials and staff immediately launched a rescue operation. A crane, were deployed to safely remove the camel from the track. Through coordinated efforts, the track was safely cleared at around 08:45 am, and train operations restored.
Divisional Railway Manager, Bhavnagar Dinesh Verma appreciated the alertness of the loco pilot and assistant loco pilot, as well as the prompt action by the officers and staff involved in the rescue operation.
Repercussion of train operations
Four trains were delayed as follows: Train No. 19015 Dadar–Porbandar: 4 hours 32 minutes, Train No. 19207 Porbandar–Rajkot: 3 hours 15 minutes, Train No. 12905 Porbandar–Shalimar: 55 minutes. Train No. 59557 Porbandar–Bhavnagar: 2 hours 43 minutes.
One pair of passenger services namely Train No. 59214 Porbandar–Bhanvad and Train No. 59213 Bhanvad–Porbandar daily passenger trains were fully cancelled as a safety precaution.
