A significant milestone has been achieved in the Kottavalasa–Koraput Doubling Project with the successful breakthrough of Tunnel No. 41-41A, located between Borra Guhalu and Karakavalasa stations in the Rayagada Division of East Coast Railway.
The breakthrough was achieved on 1 October 2026 with 100% accuracy in alignment, marking an important step forward in the ongoing doubling project.
The 829-metre-long tunnel has been constructed in a horseshoe shape along an alignment extending up to an 8-degree curve. The breakthrough was achieved in the Borra Guhalu–Karakavalasa block section.
On completion, the doubling project will enhance line capacity, improve operational efficiency and facilitate smoother movement of freight and passenger trains in the region.
