Eastern Railway (ER) has successfully commissioned Automatic Block Signalling (ABS) in the Mugma–Kalubathan section of Asansol Division.
This includes replacement of the existing track-detection systems with advanced Multi-Section Digital Axle Counters (MSDAC).
The up-gradation will improve signalling reliability, enhancing sectional capacity and facilitating smoother train operations. Major works completed include:
- Replacement of 11 existing signals with modernised signalling arrangements.
- Replacement of 2 Audio Frequency Track Circuits (AFTCs) and 25 DC Track Circuits with dual Multi-Section Digital Axle Counter (MSDAC) systems, providing reliable and redundant train-detection arrangements
- Installation of a new Integrated Power Supply (IPS) system at Kalubathan Station to ensure reliable and uninterrupted power supply to signalling equipment
- Commissioning of relay-based Automatic Block Signalling between Mugma and Kalubathan, along with provision of a new Auto Hut near Level Crossing Gate No. 6 in the section
- Provision of dual Visual Display Units (VDUs) at stations for real-time monitoring and display of Automatic Block Signalling indications and status
