IRCTC cancels all three private trains citing low occupancy

Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation has cancelled all three private trains it runs with immediate effect. The trains are 82501/02 Lucknow Junction- New Delhi Tejas Express,82901 /02 Ahmedabad Mumbai tejas Express and 82401/02,82403/04 Mahakal express between Varanasi and Indore,

The decision follows the advisory of the Tourism Ministry to take precautionary measures against the spread of Corona Virus Covid-19 by movement of tourist groups.

Based on this directive and low occupancy of its trains, IRCTChas canceled both its Tejas express trains until March 31, 2020 and Mahakal express until April 1, 2020.

Slew of trains cancelled across several zones

Western Railway decided to cancel 67 trips of 18 train services due to low occupancy arriving out of COVID-19. Details of the cancelled trains are as under:-

  • Train No.22209 Mumbai Central – New Delhi Duronto Express will be cancelled on 20th 23rd, 27th & 30th March, 2020.
  • Train No.19317 Indore – Puri Humsafar Express will be cancelled on 24th & 31st  March, 2020.
  • Train No.01705 Bandra Terminus – Jabalpur Weekly Express will be cancelled on 28th March 2020.
  • Train No.01706 Jabalpur – Bandra Terminus Weekly Express will be cancelled on 26th March 2020. 
  • Train No.14819 Bhagat Ki Kothi – Sabarmati  Express will be cancelled from 19th to 31st March, 2020.
  • Train No.14820 Sabarmati – Bhagat Ki Kothi Express will be cancelled from 19th to 31st March, 2020.
  • Train No.19316 Indore – Lingampalli Express will be cancelled on 21st & 28th  March, 2020.
  • Train No.19315 Lingampalli – Indore Express will be cancelled on 22nd  & 29th March, 2020.
  • Train No.12227 Mumbai Central – Indore Duronto Express cancelled on 21st, 26th& 28th March 2020.
  • Train No.12228 Indore – Mumbai Central Duronto Express cancelled on 22nd, 27th& 29th March 2020. 
  • Train No.22923 Bandra (T) – Jamnagar Humsafar Express cancelled on 21st, 23rd, 25th, 28th& 30th March, 2020.
  • Train No.22924 Jamnagar – Bandra (T) Humsafar Express cancelled on22nd, 24th, 26th, 29th& 31st March, 2020.
  • Train No.12239 Mumbai Central – Jaipur Duronto Express cancelled on 22nd, 24th, 29th& 31st March, 2020.
  • Train No.12240 Jaipur – Mumbai Central Duronto Express cancelled on 24th, 26th, 31stMarch& 2nd April, 2020.
  • Train No.22209 Mumbai Central – New Delhi Duronto Express cancelled on 23rd, 27th& 30th March, 2020.
  • Train No.22210 New Delhi – Mumbai Central Duronto Express cancelled on 21st, 24th, 28th& 31stMarch, 2020.
  • Train No.19317 Indore – Puri Humsafar Express cancelled on 21st&28th March, 2020.
  • Train No.19318 Puri – Indore Humsafar Express cancelled on25th March & 1st April, 2020.

Western Railway saw fluctuations in its suburban earnings during the period March 1 to March 17, 2020 according to data shared by the zone.

 Over 1 lakh tickets on East Coast Railway Cancelled 

East Coast Railway (ECoR) reported cancellation of over 1 lakh tickets in the six day- 67 per cent more than the year-ago period. Moreover, five train pairs were cancelled due to low occupancy and more number of trains may be cancelled, if required, ECoR said in a statement. The details are as follows:

  • Train No. 08501/08502 Visakhapatnam-Secunderabad-Visaskhapatnam Special will be cancelled from Visakhapatnam on 17th, 24th and 31st March, 2020 and from Secunderabad on, 25th and 1st of April, 2020.
  • Train No. 08573/08574 Visakhapatnam-Tirupati-Visakhapatnam Special will be cancelled from Visakhapatnam on 23rd & 30th March, 2020 and from Tirupati on 24th & 31st March, 2020.
  • Train No. 08301/08302 Sambalpur-Banaswadi-Sambalpur Special train will be cancelled from Sambalpur on 18th & 25th March, 2020 and from Banaswadi on 19th & 26th March, 2020.
  • Train No. 08407/08408 Bhubaneswar-Secunderabad-Bhubaneswar Special will be cancelled from Bhubaneswar on 19th & 26th March, 2020 and from Secunderabad on 20th and 27th March, 2020.
  • Similarly Train No. 08403/08404 Puri-Santragachi-Puri Special will be cancelled from Puri on 20th & 27th March, 2020 and from Santragachi on 21st and 28th March, 2020.

Central Railway cancels three more pairs of trains

In addition to 12 pairs cancelled on Tuesday, CR decided to cancel thee more pairs on low occupancy. They are as under:-

1. 82355 Patna – CSMT Mumbai Suvidha Train up to 31.3.2020

2. 82356 CSMT Mumbai – Patna Suvidha Train from 20.3.2020 to 31.3.2020

3. 02111 Solapur – Nagpur Superfast Weekly Special on 22.3.2020 and 29.3.2020

4. 02112 Nagpur – Solapur Superfast Weekly Special on 23.3.2020 and 30.3.2020

5. 02113 Solapur – Nagpur Superfast Weekly Special on 19.3.2020 and 26.3.2020

6. 02114 Nagpur – Solapur Superfast Weekly Special on 20.3.2020 and 27.3.2020

Moreover, CR also decided to postpone the introduction of 2 pairs of new MEMU services between Diva and Pen till further advice.

SER cancels 6 pairs

Due to poor patronage of trains on South Eastern Railway, SER cancelled the following trains:-

Northern Railway cancels 3 pairs

NR has cancelled three train pairs over its system. They are 14035 /36 Delhi Cantt-Pathankot express , until March 30, 14525 /26 Ambala-Shriganganagar Express until March 30, and  12047 /48 New Delhi -Firozpur express until March 29,2020.
