NCR Jhansi Wagon Repair Workshop modifies brake van for Goods Guards; Railway Board nod for nationwide upgrade of caboose

North Central Railway (NCR) Jhansi wagon repair workshop has developed the first prototype of the modified brake van (BVZI and BVCM), designed to improve the working conditions of goods train managers (Guards).

Recognizing Jhansi Workshop’s innovation, the Railway Board has issued instructions to all zonal railways under rolling stock programme (RSP) for the nationwide upgrade of BVZI and BVCM brake vans during Periodic Overhauling (POH) and Routine Over-Hauling (ROH). 

This nationwide rollout marks a significant step forward in improving work space comfort and safety for goods train managers. 

This initiative includes several upgrades such as:

1- 360-Degree Swivel Seat: A newly designed 360-degree rotatable Guard chair equipped with a dedicated fabricated footrest. 

2- Solar Power & Electrification: Integration of solar panels for lights and fans, powered by a Combined Control Unit (CCU) with a 12.8V/110 Ah Lithium Ferro Phosphate battery. 

3- Cabin Interior Enhancements: High-durability polyamine epoxy resin flooring, interior fleet graphics film, and an improved commode design. 

4- Convenience Accessories: Installation of a dedicated Walkie-Talkie stand, bottle holder, coat hook, grab handle, and a door lock with a universal key. 

 This project was personally monitored by General Manager, North Central Railway, Naresh Pal Singh who appreciated the efforts of Jhansi workshop team that developed the prototype.
