Rajkot Division of Western Railway has successfully migrated the existing Control Communication Equipment for OFC (CCEO)-based Train Control Communication System (TCCS) to a state-of-the-art Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS)-VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) based Train Control Communication System on the Rajkot–Viramgam section on 26 May, 2026.
Under this project, approximately 314.5 kilometers of railway network and 35 railway stations have been integrated, including the Rajkot–Viramgam main section (182 km), Wankaner–Navlakhi section (98 km), and Surendranagar–Dhrangadhra section (34.5 km).
With this technological upgrade, an advanced LSR/LER-based IP-MPLS backbone network has been successfully established on the Rajkot–Viramgam section. This modern system will play a vital role in making railway operations safer, faster, more reliable, and more efficient.
Key Features :
1) HD Quality Conference Voice Communication:
Seamless high-definition (HD) voice conferencing is now possible between the Control Office and Station Masters (SMs) through speakerphones and advanced Gooseneck Microphone (Gooseneck MIC) facilities.
2) Caller Identification Facility: Enhancing safety and operational accuracy, Caller ID facility has now been provided for ATNLs (Assistant Train Controllers) and Station Masters.
3) Touch Screen Control Console: The system is highly user-friendly. Modern touch screen and push-button based control console units have been installed for ATNLs, enabling faster and easier operation.
4) Direct Communication Between Station Masters: An additional communication facility has been provided for direct interaction among Station Masters at different stations without interrupting the Train Controller.
The MPLS network has been successfully stabilized and commissioned in the section. Intensive monitoring of the system will continue for the next one month, after which other communication services will also be migrated to this modern network in a phased manner.
