Alstom has announced that it has won the contract to supply Indore and Bhopal metro networks with metro trainsets and CBTC signalling installations in a deal worth over Rs. 3,200 crores.

According to the contract, Alstom will supply Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation with 156 Movia metro coaches with comprehensive maintenance for 15 years. The coaches will be built at Alstom’s Savli, Gujarat facility.

The order also includes the installation of the latest generation of Communications Based Train Control (CBTC) signalling system as well as train control and telecommunication systems; each with seven years of comprehensive maintenance.

According to a statement released by Alstom, the company will design, manufacture, supply, test, and commission 52 standard gauge Movia metro passenger trainsets. Each trainset will be configured with 3 coaches. 27 trainsets will be for Bhopal and 25 trainsets for Indore.

The modern, light-weight trains will operate at a top speed of 80 km/h, across the 31 km line in Bhopal with 30 stations and the 31.5 km line in Indore with 29 stations. This is the second such combined order in India for Alstom, after the Agra-Kanpur metro projects.
