Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that capacity augmentation works on the Howrah-Bally-Dankuni- Hooghly corridor are being done.
In a written response to Member of Parliament Smt Rachna Banerjee in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday (July 22, 2026), Vaishnaw said that the capacity augmentation works across Indian Railways are planned and executed based on traffic trends, operational and maintenance requirements and requirements for further development.
Vaishnaw said that Howrah yard re-modelling works involving installation of new interlocking system, extension of four platforms and construction of service building at a sanctioned cost of Rs. 92.85 crore has been taken up in the Howrah-Dankuni area.
Dankuni Yard remodelling work involving extension of existing shunting line and upgradation of signalling / interlocking arrangements at a sanctioned cost of Rs. 27.18 crore has also been undertaken. Besides, preparation of Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Dankuni coaching terminal has been taken up, Vaishnaw summed up.
