On April 22, 2026, Eastern Railway (ER) successfully commissioned a new Intermediate Block Signaling (IBS) system at Basudebpur, located between Dhulianganga and Nimtita stations.
By installing this new system at Basudebpur, ER has divided a long stretch into smaller, manageable segments. This allows a second train to follow safely behind the first one sooner than before, cutting down the time, trains spend idling at signals.
ER has also implemented digital sensors, known as axle counters and track circuits, which monitor every inch of track to ensure no two trains ever get too close.
Further, the system is now equipped with advanced lightning detectors and remote sensing technology, which allows the signals to remain reliable even during inclement weather.
In addition, by linking several level crossing gates directly into this automated signaling, ER has strengthened safety in train operations on this section.
