IR commissions Kavach 4.0 on 163 route km in ECR’s Grand Chord line

Indian Railways (IR) on Monday, today commissioned 163 route kilometres of Kavach Version 4.0 (Automatic Train Protection System) across three sections of its network in East Central Railway’s (ECR) Dhanbad & Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya (DDU) divisions.

The newly commissioned sections include Sarmatanr (excluding) to Nimiaghat (76 km)in Dhanbad division, Flyover Cabin DDU (excluding) to Bhabua Road (43 km) and Sasaram to Phesar (44 km) sections of DDU division.

With this, IR has now commissioned Kavach Version 4.0 over 256.3 route km on ECR. This includes the previously commissioned Manpur- Sarmatanr (93.3 Km) section in Dhanbad division.

The first Kavach-enabled service, on Train Number 15137 Budh Purnima Express operated successfully on Phesar-Sasaram section passing Phesar at 03:02 hrs and arriving at Sasaram at 03:50 hrs. It travelled through Bhabhua-DDU /Flyover Cabin section departing Bhabhua at 04:39 hrs and passing DDU/FOC at 05.20 hrs.

Kavach is being installed over 4,238 route kilometres of East Central Railway, including
417 route kilometres on the DDU –Pradhankhunta section, a part of the Delhi–Howrah route via Grand Chord line passing through Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand. The section carries mixed traffic and is currently cleared for 130 kmph.
