NCR FY26 report card: Safety first, efficient operations and better passenger service

North Central Railway (NCR) in 2025-26 (FY26) showed significant progress in strengthening safety, improving operational efficiency and building infrastructure. Besides, NCR recorded higher freight numbers alongside better passenger service delivery last fiscal.

NCR’s key achievements in FY26 were as follows:

Financials

NCR achieved its highest-ever originating loading of 20.97 million tonnes, marking a 12.6 per cent increase over the previous year, generating freight revenue of ₹2276 crore. Due to strong performance in coaching and freight segments, total originating revenue touched ₹6001.60 crore, a four per cent increase over the previous year.

Passenger services: A total of 42 new train services were introduced by NCR, including two originating trains. Four pairs of trains were converted from ICF to LHB coaches, and six pairs from ICF to MEMU rakes. NCR provided 46 new stoppages to trains, extended 12 trains and increased the frequency of two trains. Punctuality of Mail/Express trains improved to 79.1 per cent, an increase of 9.3 per cent over the previous year.

A total of 31 additional coaches were augmented in 14 pairs of passenger trains while 470 trains were operated as “Train on Demand” services, completing 3,140 trips based on passenger demand. During Magh Mela 2026, 804 special trains were operated.

Safety: NCR Prioritised safety and implemented the train protection system ‘Kavach’ system over 270 km, besides completing loco trials over 520 route km. For road safety, 22 level crossing gates were interlocked and 23 level crossings were eliminated.

Infrastructure development: NCR completed of 52.35 km doubling, 55.266 km third line, and 27 km gauge conversion last fiscal. In addition, 223-km of automatic signalling and electronic interlocking at 16 stations were commissioned.

Workshops : NCR’s wagon workshop, Jhansi achieved a record outturn of 8,350 wagons, the best in IR. Coach Mid Life Rehabilitation Workshop (CMLR) Jhansi and Rail Coach Renovation Workshop, Jhansi exceeded their coaching maintenance targets. RCRW also successfully completed SS-1 maintenance of two Vande Bharat train sets for the first time last fiscal.
