NCR to upgrade Mumbai and Howrah Rajdhani routes to 160kmph this year

North Central Railway (NCR) will commence work on 160 kmph up gradation of New Delhi-Howrah and New Delhi-Mumbai route . This was discussed at a review meeting held on Tuesday chaired by NCR’s General Manager Rajiv Chaudhry.

NCR has planned doubling of 110km while it has ambitious target of 118km and 67 km for tripling and quadrupling respectively.

 To run longer trains NCR is constructing longer loop lines and seven such longer loops to accommodate two goods trains simultaneously in one loop line are being targeted in the year 2020.

With commissioning of more sections of the dedicated freight corridor (DFC) , more goods trains shall be diverted to DFC routes thus enhancing capacity and punctuality for passenger trains.

Important yard remodeling works at Yamuna Bridge, Kanpur, Manikpur etc are targeted which will add to traffic handling capacity.

Electrification

NCR is targetting 100 per cent electrification by 2021.

With targeted auto signalling between Allahabad- Kanpur in 2020, the entire main line between Ghaziabad – Pt. Deen Dayal Updhyay Jn. shall be with auto signaling thus enhancing capacity for train handling on trunk route of New Delhi-Howrah .

NCR will be making important headway for ETCS level-2 advanced cab signaling system between Bamhrauli to Pt. Deen dayal Upadhyay jn.

Over 10 Electronic interlocking (EI) works adding traffic handling capacity and safety are planned in 2020.

Other works in 2020

Some of the important works targeted by North Central Railway in 2020 are:

Completion of balance 50 Km fencing/ boundary wall in Agra – Palwal section under Agra division which will help immensely in safe and detention free train operation for Gatiman express which runs upto Agra CAntt at 160 kmph.

NCR shall be replacing 100 manned LCs with ROB 10 Road over Bridges and balance Road under bridges  in 2020 to substantially improve safety and punctuality in train operation.

Passenger amenities 

Ten foot over bridges are being planned over NCR for improved safety and passenger amenities. All qualifying 221 stations of NCR shall be covered under WiFi.

The remaining mail express trains of NCR shall be converted to LHB stock for enhanced capacity, comfort, speed and safety.

Seven escalators are planned at Allahabad, Aligarh and Tundla while 12 lifts are being planned at Allahabad, Kanpur, Vindyachal , Jhansi , Gwalior , Mathura  and raja-ki-Mandi.

Other points discussed

The NCR GM discussed the need for structured counseling of train guards, besides rationalization of crew links to provide adequate rest to running staff.

On track safety, the GM advised accurate advance planning for procuring track related materials and sanctions of rails for renewal by each division.

 He advised more goods trains to be run on electric traction between Chunar and Chopan to ease main line between Chunar- Pt Deen Dayal Updhyay Jn.

The GM directed Allahabad division and construction wing to complete balance works of  Tundla EI so that additional platform and an extended FOB are available. He wanted them work in a manner so as to do early commissioning of Govindpuri EI works.

Finally, the GM directed Allahabad division to complete the works of Line Sah Baba FOB by January first week as it was a critical work prior to Magh Mela 2020.

This work for additional ramp on power cabin side will allow use of this FOB more effectively with all passenger enclosures thus easier handling of traffic during main bathing days.
