Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is modernizing its signal and telecom network via slew of initiatives from January 1, 2026 to July 31, 2026.
During this period, NFR strengthened its safety architecture and signaling by commissioning Electronic Interlocking (EI) at 9 stations, interlocking 40 level crossing (LC) gates and commissioning 39 sliding booms commissioned, tightening protection at critical interfaces and supporting smoother train operations.
Further, 29.73 -route km of Automatic Block Signalling has been commissioned in the Aluabari Road–Gaisal–Panjipara section, augmenting signalling capabilities and operational efficiency.
Tech-based surveillance
NFR simultaneously expanded its technology-enabled surveillance framework with CCTVsystems commissioned at 74 stations and 24 LC gates. This strengthens real-time monitoring capabilities and contributes to a more robust safety and security environment across NFR.
VoIP-based control
In addition.the VoIP-based Train Control Communication System (TCCS) has been installed and commissioned in the Lumding and Tinsukia divisions, facilitating reliable communication and supporting efficient train control operations. This is a significant step towards operational digitalization.
Passenger Reservation System
Further reinforcing the digital backbone of passenger services, RCIL Passenger Reservation System circuits at 10 Tier-I locations have been upgraded from 2 Mbps to 10 Mbps, substantially enhancing network capacity and reliability. Integrated Passenger Information Systems have also been provided at 8 stations, strengthening the availability of timely passenger information.
The decision to implement a series of technology driven signalling and telecommunication initiatives, has reinforced safety, and improved operational resilience, communication reliability and passenger-centric services.
