
Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) successfully completed a major curve realignment
work in the Simaluguri – Moranhat section under Tinsukia Division in connection with the permanent removal of a Permanent Speed Restriction (PSR).
This improvement involved conversion of an existing 3-degree curve into a smoother 2-degree curve through cut and connection of track along with shifting of Overhead Equipment (OHE) masts and wires.
The work was executed successfully with close coordination among the Engineering,
Operating and Traction Distribution (TRD) departments during the traffic block period, reflecting the strong teamwork and operational efficiency of the division.
During the execution of the block, the existing 3-degree curve was seamlessly connected
with a newly aligned 2-degree curve laid on fresh formation of approximately 500 metres length.
The project involved a maximum track slew of 7.7 metres and was completed with utmost precision and safety. To ensure smooth and safe train operations, machine tamping using a Duomatic machine was also carried out before passage of the first train.
With successful completion, the existing Permanent Speed Restriction (PSR) of 95 kmph over a stretch of 500 metres has been permanently removed and the section is now fit for Maximum Permissible Speed (MPS) of 110 kmph. This will significantly enhance train mobility, improve punctuality and provide smoother and more efficient train operations in the section.
