Northern Railway (NR) has successfully commissioned double distant signals at Pabli Khas (PQY) and Meerut Cantt (MUT) railway stations. This upgrade is specifically designed to facilitate train speeds of up to 130 kmph on the Ghaziabad-Meerut-Saharanpur section.
The project reached a major operational milestone on April 15, 2026, when train number 12903 safely traversed the upgraded section in the UP direction at 17:36 hrs, marking the successful integration of the new signalling and interlocking systems.
The commissioning involved a comprehensive overhaul of existing signalling and safety protocols. Key technical achievements of the project include:
Advanced Interlocking: The successful interlocking of Level Crossing LC-31C, equipped with modern Electric Lifting Barriers (ELB), Remote Terminal Units (RTU) by Efftronics, and Integrated Power Supply (IPS) systems.
System Alterations: Significant modifications to the Electronic Interlocking (EI) and Visual Display Unit (VDU) systems were completed at both Meerut Cantt and Pabli Khas stations.
Rigorous Testing: A total of 90 routes were tested and validated (57 at Meerut Cantt and 33 at Pabli Khas) to ensure seamless operations at higher speeds.
New signalling infrastructure: Commissioning of new Up/Down gate and distant signals to provide advance warning to loco pilots, a prerequisite for high-speed sectional operations.
