SWR Achieves Record Wagon Loading In One Day, But Short of 2020-21 Freight Target

South Western Railway has managed to load a record number of 2,604 wagons in one day on 26th March 2021 in a bid to achieve as much of the target in the final few days of the financial year 2020-21.

On the day, 2,007 wagons were loaded by Hubbali Division, 150 by Bengaluru Division and 447 by Mysuru Division which is the highest single-day wagon loading in the past four years. The zone had achieved loading of 2,594 wagons, the second-highest wagons loading performance this year.

The zone has achieved a steady 3.10 million tonnes of freight loading every month. So far, SWR has loaded 37.40 million tonnes till 26th March 2021, approximately 97.4% of the FY 2020-21 target.

In a bid to double the freight volume by 2024 and attract more freight traffic, the Ministry of Railways had directed zones and their divisions to set up Business Development Units (BDUs) and reach out to various industries to increase the highly profitable freight operations business. South Western Railway set up its BDUs in April 2020.
