WR Rajkot Division successfully migrates Train Control Communication to MPLS based VoIP system

On November 3, 2026, Western Railway’s (WR) Rajkot Division, successfully migrated to a modern Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS)-based Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) system on the Rajkot–Okha section. Prior to this, the division used CCEO-based Train Control Communication System (TCCS). [CCEO stands for Control Communication Equipment for OFC – Optical Fiber Cable].

This work was executed by Rajkot Division’s Signal & Telecommunications Department. The new network will help make the train control communication system more efficient, reliable and easier to monitor.

The Rajkot–Okha section is 252 km long. In addition, the Kanalus–Sikka branch section is 14.5 km long, the Jamnagar–Vansjaliya section is 2 km long, and the Madhapar–M/s Nayara Energy Limited, Modpur section is 12 km long. Thus, a total of 30 stations across the main and branch sections have been connected to the modern communication network.

Key Benefits of the Modern Communication Network

1. Improved Communication: The system will help make communication between train controllers and station staff more efficient and reliable.

2. Enhanced Monitoring: The modern IP-based network will enable more effective monitoring of communication services.

3. Streamlined Network Management: The new system will facilitate more systematic network management and maintenance.

4. Future Expansion: It will provide a modern platform for the phased migration of other telecommunications services to the same network.

The newly installed network has been stabilized and is currently operational under a one-month monitoring period. During this period, its stability and performance will be closely monitored. Subsequently, other telecommunications services will also be migrated to this network in a phased manner.

With this successful migration, the entire train control communication system of Rajkot Division is now established on a modern MPLS-VoIP-based network. This achievement will make Rajkot Division’s communication infrastructure more robust.
