
Central Railway (CR) achieved accident free train operations for the period April – December 2025. The zone which has India’s first railway lines is a vast network of 4353 route kilometres and 499 stations across five divisions.
Speaking on the occasion of India’s 77th Republic Day, Vivek Kumar Gupta, General Manager, CR said “Safety is our top priority and sustained efforts have led to a marked decline in accidents, enabling CR to achieve zero consequential accidents in the current financial year up to December 2025.”

Safety measures
During the period April-December 2025, CR built 13 foot-over-bridges (FOBs), 35 road-over-bridges (ROBs), 58 road-under-bridges (RUBs) while eliminating 19 level crossing (LC) gates and interlocking five LCs.
CR did rehabilitation works on 210 bridges in the last five years besides constructing 42.24 kms of boundary wall this fiscal to prevent trespassing and encroachments.
CCTV cameras are now installed at 97 railway stations while CR commissioned Electronic Interlocking (EI) at 28 stations.
To prevent train collisions, 171 locomotives have been commissioned with the Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system KAVACH.

Freight loading
CR loaded 57.13 million tonnes this financial year. Three new goods sheds were opened at Makardhokada and New Balharshah (Nagpur division) and at Igatpuri (Mumbai division) . Three container-only terminals were opened at Uran and Roha (Mumbai division) and one in Bhusawal division.

New Assets
CR inaugurated the Ahilyanagar-Beed section of the Ahilyanagar-Beed-Parli Vaijnath new line on September 17,2025.
CR also commissioned 101 Kms of New Lines / multi-tracking and 175 track kilometres of route electrification this year. A new electric loco shed was built at Daund for overhauling electric locomotives.
Five new stations-Jatnandur, Vighanwadi, Raimoha, Rajuri (Navgan) and Beed (Pune division) and two in Mumbai division- Targhar and Gavhan are now operational. CR commissioned 86.22 Kms of Automatic Block Signalling this fiscal to enhance section capacity.

Passenger services
Starting January 26,2026, CR upgraded 14 harbour line services with airconditioned EMU services taking its tally to 94 AC EMUs [CR runs 1820 daily suburban services which carry over 4 million passengers each day]
The zone introduced 18 new trains including four mail /express,four MEMU and 10 suburban trains. CR increased speeds of 39 by an average of 11 minutes per train. CR operated 7000 trips of 804 special trains plus besides 155 parcel trains this year.
Under the Amrit Bharat Station scheme CR is upgrading 98 stations at a cost of ₹1803.30 crore. Nine lifts and 12 escalators for elderly and persons with disability has been provided.
CR is converting the luggage compartment of two EMU rakes into a dedicated compartment for senior citizens. All EMU rakes will be modified in a phased manner.

Energy savings
CR added 105 MW renewable energy capacity this fiscal and installed total 20.20 MWp of solar power plants so far, saving ₹17 crore annually. CR also saved ₹ 443 crore this fiscal by procuring cheaper power through open access.
