Central Railway (CR), in an important infrastructure upgrade removed a permanent speed restriction over 800-metres of 75 kmph on the UP line between Asvali and Padli.
Situated between Nasik Road and Igatpuri stations of Bhusaval division, CR, the Asvali -Padli section alignment is curved and passes through a semi-ghat section with rock cuttings
CR’s Bhusaval Division completed the challenging Through Formation Treatment (TFTR) work on the Up line of the Asvali–Padli section.
A PSR of 75 kmph between km marker 160.57 to km marker 160.13 had been in place for a long time and required constant monitoring especially during monsoon.
The work posed considerable challenges as the section is situated in a semi ghat area with limited accessibility. The track formation height is approximately 9 meters and includes a curve of 2.26 degrees. Considering these factors, the work was taken up for execution post monsoon in 2025.
The TFTR work was carried out using the cut and cover method, deploying 4 excavators, 2 JCBs, 3 Hydra cranes, 1 vibratory roller, and water tankers. The entire operation was completed in 33 traffic blocks, each averaging 2 hours and 30 minutes.
With the successful completion of the TFTR work, the PSR has now been removed and will facilitate faster and safer train operations on this section.
