Indian Railways (IR) has prepared detailed project reports (DPR) of two projects in Kashmir. They are as follows:
1) Qazigund – Srinagar – Budgam doubling (118 km),
2) Baramulla to Uri new line (40 km).

This information was provided by the Union Minister for Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw, in a reply to a question in Rajya Sabha last Friday.
After preparation of DPR, sanctioning of project requires consultation with various stake-holders including State Governments and necessary approvals such as appraisal by NITI Aayog, Ministry of Finance etc.
As sanctioning of projects is a continuous and dynamic process, exact timelines cannot be fixed, the Minister observed.
The Union Railway Minister stated further that a survey for a 34-km new line between Sopore and Kupwara has been sanctioned and the DPR prepared. However, the project has been dropped as it was found to be infeasible.
