Eastern Railway’s Sealdah Division, successfully completed a yard modification work at Berhampore Court station commissioning the upgraded facilities at 4:20 hours on Tuesday, March 17,2026.
This infrastructure and signalling upgrade marks the transition to a highly efficient “common loop” layout. The project involved the commissioning of three new common loop Lines—line No. 3 (594m), line No. 4 (377m), and line No. 5 (348m)—alongside the opening of new island platforms number 4 and 5.
To support these additions, the station’s electronic interlocking system was upgraded to a state-of-the-art Nippon 2-out-of-2 architecture, doubling the number of functional route capacity from 25 to 50.
With this, Sealdah Division successfully commissioned the final phase of the Plassey–Jiaganj (PLY–JJG) doubling project at Berhampur Court (BPC) station.

Operational Benefits of the yard modification:
• Provision (addition) of three common loop lines, enabling the station to accommodate more trains simultaneously, increasing frequency.
• Extension of existing loop line lengths (line 1 increased to 890m from 680m and line 2 to 807m from 564m) to facilitate the handling of longer trains, thereby allowing higher passenger carrying capacity.
• Increase in the number of operational routes from 25 to 50, improving operational flexibility and reducing route setting time, which will help enhance train punctuality.
• Provision of simultaneous train movements: The opening of the new island platforms No. 4 and 5 will reduce platform congestion as trains can now be simultaneously received and dispatched from both Up and Down directions enabling smoother and more efficient train operations at the station.

Salient Features of signal & telecom works:
• Commissioning of a new Electronic Interlocking system to strengthen safety in train operations.
• Dual Visual Display Units (VDU) installed at Berhampore Court station for improved operational monitoring.
• Dual MSDAC systems provided on main lines, enhancing the safety of train movements.
• MSDAC track detection with redundant DC track circuits on loop lines, further strengthening operational safety.
• Installation of 11 new Point Machines to support the upgraded yard layout.
• New Electric Lifting Barriers installed at Level Crossing Gates No. 129/E and No. 132/T, enabling quick opening and closing of Level Crossing Gates.
• Installation of Automatic Fire Detection and Alarm System.
• Provision of Fuse Alarm System and Earth Leakage Detector for improved electrical safety.
