ER’s Malda division commissions its first single line IBS

Eastern Railway’s Malda Division successfully commissioned its first-ever single line Intermediate Block Signalling (IBS) system at Sanjha railway station on Thursday, January 22, 2026. With this the train handling capacity will see a significant augmentation in the Tikani–Dhauni section of the Bhagalpur–Godda loop line.

The newly commissioned IBS has bifurcated the long block section between Tikani and Dhauni into two shorter block sections, enabling efficient train operations. This will increase line capacity, besides improving train punctuality.

The IBS is equipped with Dual MSDAC (Multi-Section Digital Axle Counter) manufactured by M/s Frauscher, ensuring accurate train detection even under adverse conditions. A Dual UFSBI (Universal Fail-Safe Block Interface) Multiplexer has been provided to ensure communication redundancy, while an integrated Data Logger enables real-time monitoring of events and diagnostics.

Simultaneously, the existing Daido make Tokenless Block Instrument (TLBI) in the Tikani–Dhauni section has been replaced with SSBPAC(D) (Solid State Block Proving Axle Counter – Digital), marking a transition to fully digital and maintenance-friendly block working.
