Indian Railways (IR) will produce 1546 locomotives this financial year (FY 2026-27) according to the revised production programme for locomotives.
Of this, 1054 freight locos would be produced while the remaining 492 would be passenger locos, Railway Board said in a letter to Production Units- Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW), Banaras Locomotive Works and Patiala Locomotive Works (PLW).
The detailed break up of production unit wise and locomotive type wise production programme is given below.
For FY 2027 – 28, IR has kept the production programme at a total of 957 locos. Of this 770 are freight locos and 187 are passenger locos.
