J&K snowfall: Nearly 2900 stranded passengers rescued

Indian Railways rescued nearly 2900 passengers stuck in heavy snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir as flights were cancelled and roads blocked.

In the last 48 hours, Northern Railway’s Jammu division operated two pairs of special trains between Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra (SVDK) and Srinagar (SINA) and successfully transported nearly 2,900 passengers.

“Our priority was to ensure that no passenger was left stranded,” said Ashok Kumar Verma, General Manager, Northern Railway. The quick mobilization of these special train pairs allowed us to clear the backlog of travellers while maintaining efficient operations under challenging conditions,” he added.

IR earned  a total revenue of approximately ₹22 lakh by operating these special trains.
