Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has commissioned a Load Box Testing facility at the newly constructed DEMU shed at New Bongaigaon Carriage & Wagon Workshop.
The workshop has successfully completed the required electrical modifications, including provision of cable extension and installation of an additional panel for conducting Load Box testing within the new shed itself. This modernized arrangement ensures safe and reliable power supply for testing activities.
With the commissioning of this facility, Driving Power Cars (DPCs) of DEMU rakes will now be tested in the same shed, eliminating the earlier practice of shifting them to another location for Load Box testing. This has reduced unnecessary shunting operations, minimized time loss in movement and optimized manpower utilization. The initiative has significantly streamlined the workflow, resulting in faster turnaround of DEMU rakes and improved operational efficiency.
Moreover, NFR has taken steps to augment and maintain DEMU rakes to cater to increasing passenger demand, particularly in short-distance and suburban sections. The improved maintenance capacity and testing infrastructure will ensure higher availability of DEMU services, enhanced reliability and better punctuality.
This will help daily commuters, students, small traders and office-goers across Assam and other North-eastern states integrating markets, healthcare and educational institutions, besides connecting remote and semi-urban areas with major junctions.
