NFR: CRS authorises train operations between Murkongselek and Sille

Sumeet Singhal, Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), Northeast Frontier Circle,authorized train operation in the newly constructed 15.7-km Murkongselek – Sille BG line section.

He had conducted the safety inspection and speed trials of this section on February on 12 and 13, 2026. The CRS has approved train operations on the route at a maximum permissible speed of 110 kmph.

The 15.7-km  Murkongselek-Sille section is a part of the ongoing 26.15- km long new rail line project between Murkongselek and Pasighat.

This infrastructure project aims to strengthen rail connectivity to Arunachal Pradesh. The Murkongselek – Pasighat new railway line runs from Murkongselek in Assam to Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh. 

The line has three new stations, Sille, Labo and Pasighat along with 27 major bridges.

Project benefits

The Murkongselek – Pasighat line Project will significantly improve connectivity between Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and the rest of the country.

Once completed, the new line will extend long-distance rail connectivity up to Pasighat through the Rangiya – Murkongselek route and via the Bogibeel Bridge.

This line will help reduce travel time and transportation costs for both passengers and goods, ensure uninterrupted supply of essential commodities. It is also likely to boost small-scale industries and  position Arunachal Pradesh as an emerging tourism hub.

Railways in Arunachal Pradesh

Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh was connected to the national broad-gauge railway network with the commissioning of a new line from Harmuti to Naharlagun railway station on  March 29, 2014.

Passenger services on the Harmuti – Naharlagun route commenced on April 7, 2014.

Strengthening this link, the Naharlagun–New Delhi AC Express was introduced on February 22, 2015, providing Arunachal Pradesh, a direct train to New Delhi.
