PM Modi in Assam: Rail projects worth Rs 6146 crore dedicated / foundation stone laid

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, dedicated and laid foundation stone for several railway projects in Kokrajhar, Assam via video conferencing from Guwahati.

He dedicated to the nation three major railway electrification projects, namely Rangiya-Mukongselek (558 km), Chaparmukh-Dibrugarh (571 km) and Badarpur-Silchar and Badarpur-Churaibari (315 km).

He laid the foundation stone for a 194-km doubling project between Furkating and Tinsukia. The total cost of these projects is Rs 5,890 crore.

The PM also laid foundation stone for a new railway wagon POH (periodic overhaul) workshop at Bashbari, Kokrajhar, worth Rs 256 crore. This will strengthen railway rolling stock maintenance infrastructure, improve operational efficiency and generate employment opportunities in the region.

Three trains flagged off

PM Modi flagged off three trains- Kamakhya-Charlapalli Amrit Bharat Express, Guwahati-New Jalpaiguri Express and Narangi-Agartala Express boosting rail connectivity in the Northeast.

These new trains and projects will boost trade and tourism, besides being useful for students and  patients. Improved communication and logistics will provide easier access to larger markets benefitting the region.

PM in West Bengal (Saturday, March 14, 2026)

PM Modi will visit Kolkata in West Bengal on March 14 to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for a slew of projects worth Rs 18680 crore.

Railway projects to be inaugurated by the PM include the 16-km long third line between Belda and Dantan, and the automatic block signalling system between Kalaikunda and Kanimohuli.

He will inaugurate six redeveloped railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme namely Kamakhyaguri, Anara, Tamluk, Haldia, Barabhum and Siuri. He will also flag off the Purulia-Anand Vihar Terminal (Delhi) Express, strengthening rail connectivity between West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar UP and Delhi.

PM in Ernakulam, Kerala ( Wednesday, March 11, 2026)

PM Modi dedicated to the nation railway projects worth ₹142 crore on Wednesday. He dedicated the rail electrification to the nation the 65-km rail electrification project between Shoranur and Nilambur Road costing about ₹90 crore.

He also inaugurated three redeveloped railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme-Shoranur Jn, Kuttippuram and Changanassery. They have been redeveloped at a total cost of about ₹52 crore.

These stations now have better passenger amenities such as larger circulating areas, better accessibility, upgraded station buildings, improved waiting areas, better platform shelters, improved passenger information systems, lifts and escalators, better lighting and provision of free Wi-Fi.

He also flagged off the Palakkad – Pollachi MEMU train service improving rail, strengthening rail connectivity between Tamil Nadu and Kerala for daily commuters, pilgrims, traders and tourists.

PM in Tiruchchirapalli, Tamil Nadu ( Wednesday, March, 11,2026)

The same day, PM Modi visited Tiruchchirapalli and flagged off five new train services. They were

  1. Nagercoil–Charlapalli Amrit Bharat Express, connecting Southern Tamil Nadu and Telangana via Andhra  Pradesh.
  2. Podanur (Coimbatore)–Dhanbad Amrit Bharat Express connecting Tamil Nadu and Jharkhand via Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.
  3. Rameswaram–Mangaluru Express
  4. Tirunelveli–Mangaluru Express, both enabling easier travel between Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka.  
  5. Mayiladuthurai and Karaikkudi new train via Thiruvarur-Karaikkudi for the benefit of daily commuters, students and local businesses.
