Capacity Enhancement: Lanjigarh Rd-Ambodala on Titlagarh-Rayagada ECoR Route Gets Intermediate Block Signalling

In a measure that could result in increased line capacity, Intermediate Block Signalling has been commissioned between Lanjigarh Road and Ambodala stations. The stretch is part of the Titlagarh-Rayagada section of East Coast Railway.

This capacity enhancement work will increase the number of trains the section can handle.

Yard remodeling work has also been completed at Ambodala yard. An additional crossover to a shunting neck and siding has been provided. The work is expected to ease congestion at the station and reduce shunting movements on the running lines.

Intermediate Block Signalling is a technique used to split a long block section into two. An additional signal is provided in the middle of two stations. This signal is controlled remotely by the adjacent station.

Many congested trunk routes are already using IBS to increase line capacity as an interim solution while tripling or quadrupling works are sanctioned or executed.
