Central Railway earns ₹391 Crores from disposal of scrap

Central Railway launched “Zero Scrap Mission” to ensure each Division, Workshop and Shed in Central Railway is free from scrap materials. Central Railway surpassed the scrap sale target of Rs 350 Crore and sold scrap worth Rs 391.43 Crore during the  year 2020-2021 , which is the highest in the last 15 years. Transparency was maintained in the entire process of auction. The target for the year 2021-22 is 400 Crore. 

The scrap materials included scrap rails, permanent-way materials, condemned coaches, wagons and locomotives etc. Central Railway has also disposed off abandoned structures on “As is where is basis” through e -Auction with an earning of Rs 8.65 Crore. 

Anil Kumar Lahoti, General Manager, Central Railway said that sale of scrap is not only helping in generating revenue but also maintaining premises in better upkeep. He also said that Central Railway will work in a mission mode to sell all the identified scrap material at various locations in railways.

During the financial year, the Material Management branch played a vital role in ensuring availability of  oxygen at railway hospitals in addition to this, arranged  procurement of Covid items including Oxygen Generator Plant, to ensure availability for treatment/care of railway beneficiaries.

  1. Scrap earning on the Railway system as a whole is an item that can be monitored. Perhaps this is as item of good amount of earning without investment ?
