Come 25th June, Southern Railway to allow specific categories of passengers to travel in Chennai Suburban train system

In view of the lockdown guidelines dated 20-06-2021 issued by Government of Tamil Nadu, Southern Railway will allow the following categories of passengers to travel in the Chennai Suburban train system w.e.f 25-06-2021 (from 00:00 hours). The pattern of travel and type of tickets that will be issued to them is also juxtaposed below:

1.Staff of State/Central Govts/PSUs/High Court and other courts/Staff of private sector and other sectors with permission letter and ID cards  ·         Allowed to travel round the clock·         Single/Return journey and season tickets will be issued
2.Passenger with a reserved ticket in a Mail/express train either traveling back to their home or any other place after completing a journey by Mail/express train or traveling from their home or any other place to a railway station for boarding the mail/express train ·         Allowed to travel round the clock·         Only Singly journey ticket will be issued
3.Lady passengers traveling for any purpose ·         Allowed to travel round the clock·         Single/Return journey and season tickets will be issued
4.Children below 12 years of age only when accompanied by lady passengers        Same as above
5.Male passengers not falling in category 1 & 2 above·         Allowed to travel only during non-peak hours·         Only Single journey tickets will be issued

Male passengers permitted to travel during non-Peak Hours

The non-peak hours for this purpose are reckoned from the early hours of the day to 07:00 hours in the morning, 09:30 hrs to 16:30 hrs and from 19:00 hrs to the closing hours of the day. They will be issued only single journey tickets. 

APPEAL:

Southern Railway appeals to all the passengers using suburban train services to follow all the COVID-19 protocols issued from time to time by Ministry of Health & Family welfare, Govt of India and Government of Tamil Nadu from time to time.

·         Please do not enter station premises and train without wearing mask. Persons found not wearing masks inside railway premises or trains will be imposed with a fine of Rs.500. 

·         Please do not crowd while boarding and de-boarding the train

·         Please maintain social distancing in station premises and onboard

·         Please co-operate with Railway employees for checking your valid documents at stations and during your journey.

·         Refrain from travel if tested positive or experience COVID symptoms like fever, cough, etc.

*The Schedule of Suburban trains and timings in various routes shall be notified through a separate press release.
