CR Corona Warriors Carry Out Maintenance Work During Mega Block

The quantum of maintenance work carried out during mega blocks on Sundays is much more than if the work is carried during night blocks or when trains are not running. CR Corona Warriors carried out the maintenance work during the block on Vidyavihar-Thane Up and Dn fast lines on 12.7.2020.

Engineering

Through Rail Renewal of 1.54 track km between Bhandup and Mulund. About 100 sleeper replacement by Road Rail Vehicle and removal of 55 scrap rails, points and cross over points replacement and Alumino-thermic welding at 6 places done.

Over Head Equipment

Work carried out with two Tower Wagons and a ladder gang. Contact wire replacement done for a length of 250m; 3 splices and 4 weak points removed.  Annual overhauling of OHE approximately one km, turn outs, provision and replacement of 40 bonds; provision of 39 plates were carried out.

S&T works

Tuning work of Audio Frequency Track Circuits carried out. Replacement of 10 S-bonds, track lead wires of 10 track circuits, 50 channel pins, maintenance of 5 Location boxes (LoC) at Ghatkopar were carried out. Sulphation cleaning in 5 Locations, replacement of glued joint of track 221-T, blower cleaning of power room equipment, K- Board description testing/updating at Vikhroli done. All the work carried out to keep assets in good conditions.

In addition, at Through Rail Renewal block drilled 24 holes of 7.1 mm cycle; replaced point 115-B motor and friction clutch, replaced 2 digital axle counter sensors, tuning work of Audio Frequency track circuits carried out, replaced 8 S-bonds, track lead wires of 8 track circuits, maintenance of 3 Location boxes and replaced 40 channel pins.

The digital axle counter sensors play an important role in efficient operation of trains in general and during monsoon in particular. The field unit which is a track side electronic assembly detects the passing wheels and transmits the information to central evaluator to determine the track occupation.

Removal of old FOB at Vasind

A more than 100-year-old foot over bridge (FOB) at Vasind was also dismantled using a road crane within the stipulated time.  It had two spans of 18.9 metre each and 2.59 metre width.  A new FOB in lieu of this is already in use.
